We recognize that children and young people are a vital part of the family of God TODAY! We welcome children’s participation in church life, and the worship service in particular. We are thankful for our youthful readers, greeters and ushers, singers, and musicians.
Our church is blessed with a willing and hard-working set of volunteers who teach our children in Sunday School. Teams of teachers lead in Sunday School on rotation. That allows our Sunday School teachers time to be in worship on Sunday mornings.
Allison Shaw, our Christian Education coordinator, meets with our teachers every month. Those meetings are dedicated to previewing the material our volunteers will teach on a particular Sunday. This is how we ensure that classes are well planned, and taught with enthusiasm.
Each month has a particular topic and scripture stories assigned to it. We usually run three Sundays per topic with a “Movie Sunday” to finish off the month.
Recognizing that parents are the prime spiritual influence in the lives of their children, we are working toward creating venues in which parents and children can grow in faith together to better maximize the spiritual development of our youth.
We have several programs at First Church geared to different ages:
